JOHN VIRTUE / London Paintings

Recientemente he disfrutado de un fantástico documental sobre John Virtue titulado "London Paintings". Virtue és un artista británico especializado en paisajes monocromáticos. El documental comprende el tiempo (de 2003 al 2005) durante el cual el artista trabajó en el estudio de la National Gallery de Londres como sexto artista asociado produciendo la série de grandes lienzos "London Paintings" enfocadas en el perfil de la ciudad y el rio Thames.

Todavia recuerdo lo pasmado que me quedé la primera vez que ví su trabajo. Un gigantesco lienzo en blanco y negro que retrataba Londres desde Greenwich Park, un moderno y contemporáneo paisaje expresionista que aún así seguia conectado a la tradición de los grandes maestros. Sencillamente genial!
PD: Mis disculpas por la calidad de las imágenes, no hay una gran representación del trabajo de Virtue en la web así que he decidido postear capturas de pantalla del documental.

I've recently enjoyed a great documentary about John Virtue called "London Paintings". Virtue is a British artist who specialises in monochromatic landscapes. The documentary comprises the time (from 2003 to 2005) that the artist spent working in the studio of the London's National Gallery as sixth associate artist producing the "London Paintings", a series of large scale paintings focusing on London's skyline and the river Thames.

I still remember how awestruck I was the first time I saw his work with a huge massive black & white canvas depicting London from Greenwich park, a modern and contemporary expressionist landscape yet still connected to the Old Master's tradition. Awesome!

PS: Apologies for the quality of the images, as Virtue's work doesn't have a great representation on internet, I decided to post screen captures from the documentary.

Desde el blog de Carlos Vermut descubro el nuevo proyecto "Frases Encontradas" de Juan Berrio (uno de los ilustradores y dibujante de comics más interesantes de españa). Como muy bien dice Vermut, Juan Berrio és un mago, un jugón y como ejemplo para entender la belleza y plasticidad de los trabajos de Berrio echadle un vistazo a este increible video donde nos enseña que donde la mayoria de nosotros veria un sketchbook él ve... un edificio! Y su nuevo blog no és menos interesante, así que echadle un vistazo a como captura maravillosamente en papel frases encontradas.

From Carlos Vermut's blog I get to know about the new blog project "Frases Encontradas" ("Found Sentences") from Juan Berrio (one of the most interesting illustrators and comic book artist in Spain nowadays). As Vermut says, Berrio is a wizzard, a player, and as example to understand the plasticity and beauty of Berrio's way of working look at this incredible video where he shows us that where most of us would see an sketchbook, he sees... a building! And his new blog project is not less interesting, so check out how he captures beautifully in paper bits of overheard conversations.

Hace seis años encontré un curioso librito titulado "Hot Banana Fudge". Cautivado por la delicadeza de los personajes situados en una mezcla surrealista de imagineria tradicional y ciencia ficción, poco podia imaginar que estaba descubriendo el peculiar trabajo de la artista japonesa Takano Aya . Hace poco en Dadanoies.net encontré una entrevista/documental de Hélène Servaux donde la artista habla sobre sus pinturas e influencias. Dicho esto, disfrutad de las dos partes de este documental y visitad su página en la Galerie Emmanuel Perrotin para una buena selección de sus trabajos.

Six years ago I found a curious little book called "Hot Banana Fudge". Captivated by it's delicate characters set on a surrealistic mixture of traditional and Sci-Fi imagery backgrounds and situations, little I knew that I was discovering the peculiar work of Japanese artist called Takano Aya. I've recently found at Dadanoies.net a worth watching interview/documentary by Hélène Servaux where the artist talks about her paintings and influences. Having said that, enjoy both parts of the documentary and visit her page at Galerie Emmanuel Perrotin for a good selection of her works.

Siempre disfruto de proyectos fotográficos con una cierta repetición sobre un mismo tema (ver también el Typenesting Project). Esta vez desde los archivos del blog de Mark Pudleiner descubro Exactitudes (la contracción entre exacto y actitud) un proyecto desarrollado en Rotterdam por el fotógrafo Ari Versluis y el analista de perfiles Ellie Uyttenbroek desde octubre de 1994 que documenta la heterogeneidad y multiculturalidad de la escena callejera de la ciudad registrando la etiqueta de los sujetos en un mismo escenario, poses similares y un estrictamente vigilado código indumentario resulta en un estudio antropológico casi científico de la contradicción entre individualismo y uniformidad de la gente.

I always enjoy photographic projects with a certain repetition about the subject (see also the Typenesting Project). This time from the archive of Mark Pudleiner's blog I discover Exactitudes (a contraction of exact and attitude) a project developed by Rotterdam-based photographer Ari Versluis and profiler Ellie Uyttenbroek since October 1994 that documents the city's heterogeneous and multicultural street scene by registering the subject's dress codes in an identical framework with similar poses and strictly observed dress code, results in an almost scientific, anthropological record of people's contradiction between individuality and uniformity.

Una vez más, la semana pasada, descubrí un nuevo e interesante sitio. Esta vez grácias a mi amigo Xavi, que estaba buscando un regalo para uno de sus sobrinos y me llevó a una bonita tienda-taller llamada el ALMACÉN MARABI. Escondida en las laberínticas calles del Born en Barcelona esta pequeña tienda está llena de preciosos y coloridos muñecos de fieltro. Todos ellos hechos por Mariela (algunos diseñados por su novio) y con la cual tuvimos una amigable charla sobre experiéncias compartidas. Como sea, visitad su blog o incluso mejor su tienda y disfrutad de la amplia variedad de muñecos que tiene y mantenedla presente si teneis que hacer algún regalo a vuestros pequeños (o no tan pequeños:).

Once again, last week, I got to discover a new interesting place. This time thanks to my friend Xavi, who was looking for a present for one of his nephews and took me to a nice craftshop called ALMACÉN MARABI. Hidden in the labyrinthian streets of "el Born" (Barcelona) this little shop is full of cute and colorful felt toys. All of them made by Mariela (some designed by her boyfriend) with whom we had a pleasant talk about common experiences. Anyhow, visit her blog or even better her shop to enjoy the wide variety of felt toys that she makes and keep her in mind if you have to do a present to your little ones (or not so little:).

ABRACADABRA Llibres per a Nens

És genial encontrar tesoros escondidos mientras vagabundeas por las calles de tu ciudad. Hoy caminando alrededor del mercado de Santa Caterina (en Barcelona) me he encontrado con ABRACADABRA, una nueva libreria especializada en cuentos para niños (en varios idiomas) pero donde también encontrarás una selecta variedad de materiales educativos, juguetes y cómics para jóvenes lectores. Además el espacio ha sido deliciosamente diseñado y decorado con una delicada pintura mural, una zona de lectura para niños (con pizarra incluida) e incluso un parking para cochecitos de bebé!. También están preparando actividades para los fines de semana como cuentacuentos con las que empezarán en breve (hace solo un més que han abierto sus puertas al público). En definitiva un sitio mágico y sorprendente que debeis visitar si teneis hijos o seguís siendo niños grandes con amor por los libros.

It's wonderful to find hidden treasures in your city while wandering the streets. Today walking around St. Caterina Market (in Barcelona) I found ABRACADABRA, a new bookshop specialized on children books (in many languages), but you will also find a nice selected variety of educative materials, toys and comic-books for early readers. Moreover the space it's been wonderfully designed and decorated with a delicate mural painting, a reading area for children (with black board) and a parking space for baby buggies!. They're also planning activities for the weekend like storytelling that hopefully will start soon (they just opened doors a month ago). Definitely a magic and surprising place that you must visit if you have kids or still have a kid inside with love for books.

Es genial descubrir (Via Fabrik Project) el trabajo del estudio de arquitectura y diseño Baupiloten en Berlín.

El galardonado estudio (también aparece en el libro Play All Day : Design for Children) se especializa en innovativos proyectos de diseño sociales como escuelas y guarderias demostrando como la arquitectura puede jugar un importante papel en el desarrollo de la creatividad e interactividad entre los estudiantes y su entorno.

Bueno, después de echarle un vistazo a sus proyectos me gustaria ser uno de esos chicos alemanes para poder disfrutar realmente de ir a la escuela!

The award-winning studio (also featured in the book Play All Day : Design for Children) specialises in innovative social design projects such as schools and kindergartens proving how architecture can play a significant role in the creative and interactive interplay between students and their environment.

Disculpas por la falta de posts ultimamente, pero queria postear algo que no fuera un video o relacionado con el medio. Finalmente hoy en mi Reader (via Notcot) he recibido una notícia interesante. El nuevo Museo Hergé abre oficialmente sus puertas en Louvain-la-neuve, una pequeña ciudad cerca de Bruselas, Bélgica. Algo que definitivamente deberás visitar si éres fan de Tintín y estás por la zona. Échale un vistazo al interior diseñado por el arquitecto Christian de Portzamparc, aquí.

Sorry for the lack of posts lately. But I wanted to post something that wasn't a video or film related. Finally today on my Reader (via Notcot) received an interesting new. The new Hergé Museum has officially open in Louvain-la-neuve, a small town near Brussels, Belgium. Something you must visit if you're a Tintin fan and you're nearby. Hoy hemos tenido la oportunidad de disfrutar los primeros dos capítulos de la série UNITED STATES OF TARA. De momento la história parece interesante y los personajes y situaciones bastante divertidos. Today we've had the chance to enjoy the first two chapters of the series UNITED STATES OF TARA. So far the plot seems interesting and the characters and situations quite funny. Thanks to 4ojos comment on previous post on Kusho, I've remembered this brilliant piece of motion graphics by Jung von Matt, a online campaign for Konzerthaus Dortmund. An excellent mix of music and images I could watch over and over.

El Mac & Retna MEMENTO MORI

Hace unos dias, Wooster Collective & Juxtapoz Magazine han destacado las colaboraciones de dos interesantes artistas del graffiti: El Mac y Retna. El mural que aparece abajo se titula Memento Mori, una frase en Latín que nos recuerda nuestra mortalidad. Como los propios artistas explican: "Esto puede parecer un poco desagradable, pero en realidad se trata de animarnos a disfrutar al máximo y valorar como és debido nuestro tiempo aquí"

El Mac nos obsequia con el personaje y Retna la caligrafía que transcribe un poema Prehispánico Nahuatl/Azteca:

¿Acaso debo hacer como las flores que perecen?

¿Quedará algo de mi nombre?

¿Algo de mi fama aquí en la Tierra?

Por lo menos mis flores, por lo menos mis canciones.

La tierra és la región de los momentos fugazes.

In the last few days, Wooster Collective & Juxtapoz Magazine have featured the collaboration works of two interesting graffiti artists: El Mac and Retna. The mural showed below it's been titled Memento Mori, a Latin phrase that remind us of our mortality. As the artists tell us "That could seem a little grim, but the point is really to encourage us to properly value and make the most of our time here."

El Mac delivers the character and Retna the lettering that comes from a pre-Hispanic Nahuatl/Azteca poem:

Must I go like the flowers that perish?

Will nothing remain of my name?

Nothing of my fame here on Earth?

At least my flowers, at least my songs.

Earth is the region of the fleeting moment.

Shinichi Maruyama / KUSHO

Ayer (via Fabrik Project) me quedé fascinado con las série de fotografias tituladas KUSHO ("escribiendo en el aire") por Shinichi Maruyama, donde precipita al aire tinta china contra agua (o viceversa) y fotografia el milisegundo donde estos dos líquidos colisionan, capturando el fenómeno a 7500 fracciones de segundo aprovechando los más recientes avances en tecnología de luz estroboscópica con la cual se pueden grabar acontecimientos físicos más rápidos de lo que el ojo humano puede percibir. En ciertos aspectos la acción total se convierte en una espécie de performance de Shodo (Caligrafia Japonesa) con la ejecución del gesto en el aire en vez de la superfície plana del papel.

Una vez más otro ejemplo de como una idea bastante simple (esta vez ayudada de últimas tecnologías) puede generar unas imágenes tan bellas.

Yesterday (via Fabrik Project) I got mesmerized by Shinichi Maruyama's photograph serie titled KUSHO (which means "writing in the sky") where he hurls black India ink into water (or vice versa) and photographs the millisecond that those two liquids collide, capturing the phenomenon at a 7500th of a second by taking full advantage of recent advancement in strobe light technology that can record physical events faster than the naked eye can perceive them. In some respects the total action becomes a form of Shodo (Japanese calligraphy) performance with the gesture executed in the air rather than on the flat surface of a paper.

Once again another example of how a quite simple idea (this time helped by the latest technology) can generate such a beautiful images.

Hace ya un año más o menos que sigo la carrera de Anthony Lister. Desde la primera série de Superheroes que ví quedé cautivado por su frescura y contemporaneidad, que de alguna manera debe a sus inicios como graffitero en Australia. No menos interesantes són sus esculturas, fotografias e instalaciones, así que echadle un vistazo a su web y definitivamente seguid la pista de su cada vez más activa carrera. Mientras tanto, aquí teneis una selección ecléctica de sus trabajos.

It's been about a year now since I follow Anthony Lister's work. From the first super-hero series I saw from him I got captivated by his fresh and contemporary style that he somehow owes to his start as graffiti artist back in Australia. Not less interesting are his sculpture works, photographs and installations so check him out at his website and definitely keep track of his more and more active career. Meanwhile, here you have an eclectic selection of his works.

Hace unos meses fuí con un amigo a una visita comentada de una exposición sobre Fotografía Documental Moderna en MACBA. La charla en sí se centraba en una parte de la exposición dedicada a la revista LIFE y estuvo a cargo de Enric Jardí (uno de nuestros mejores diseñadores) con el que probablemente todos nosotros disfrutamos del detallado análisis, explicaciones y opiniones sobre los primeros años de história de la revista. Hoy he encontrado en CoverBrowser.com el archivo completo de las portadas y he pensado en hacer una pequeña selección para compartirla con todos vosotros.

Some months ago I went with a friend to a commented exhibition about Modern Documentary Photography at MACBA Museum. The talk itself was just about a particular part of the exhibition centred on LIFE Magazine and was given by Enric Jardí (one of our best Spanish designers) and probably all of us enjoyed very much his detailed analysis, explanations and opinions about the early years of the magazine's history. Today I found at CoverBrowser.com the whole archive of it's covers and I thought I'd make a selection and share with you all.

SIMPLICISSIMUS magazine

El otro dia volví a visitar el blog de notícias Man Arena (Alias: YAXÍN the FAUN) y encontré este magnífico post sobre la revista alemana SIMPLICISSIMUS. Como el mismo Man Arena nos resume: ¨Desde el crepúsculo del siglo IXX hasta el final de la 2ª Guerra Mundial, esta revista semanal era la referéncia para ilustradores, artesanos y caricaturistas políticos.¨ Encontrad los archivos completos online, unos 2500 archivos PDF. Realmente un verdadero tesoro!
Encuentro sorprendente como algunos artistas tenian un acercamiento tan moderno y como se han mantenido frescos hasta hoy en dia. También és digno de tener en cuenta con qué imaginación resolvian limitaciones de impresión y color... és otro ejemplo perfecto de como a veces, con recursos mínimos acabas generando los mejores trabajos.
PD: Ha sido complicado seleccionar la compilación que muestro abajo, así que no descarto postear más material en un futuro.

The other day I re-visited Man Arena's news blog (AKA: YAXÍN the FAUN) and found this wonderful post about the German magazine SIMPLICISSIMUS. As Man Arena perfectly sums up: ¨From the dusk of the 19th century till the end of WWII, this weekly magazine was a milestone for illustrator, craftmens and political cartoonists.¨ Find the complet archives online, about 2500 PDF files full of pencil art. A true treasure indeed!
I find quite amazing to see how some artists had such a modern approach back in the time and how they remain so fresh nowadays. Also has to be considered how brilliantly they'd resolve printing and colour limitations... it is another perfect example that how sometimes, with minimum resources you end up delivering better work.
PS: It's been very difficult to select the short compilation below, so I don't discard posting some more material soon.

SOROLLA / Visión de España

El pasado sábado visitamos la exposición de Sorolla Visión de España en el MNAC (Barcelona).La exposición presenta el último grupo de trabajos de Sorolla, encargado por Archer M. Huntington y emplazado en la Hispanic Society of America en Nueva York. Una série de 14 paneles gigantescos que representan la particular visión del pintor del paisaje y las gentes españolas de la época, los cuales pintó al aire libre y durante un periodo de 7 años convirtiendose así en la obra de su vida, como el mismo pintor declaró.

No os perdais la oportunidad de contemplar las explosiones de luz y color de uno de los pintores españoles más universales.

Last Saturday we visited Sorolla's exhibition Visión de España at MNAC Museum in Barcelona. The exhibition presents Sorolla's last body of work commissioned by Archer M. Huntington emplaced in the Hispanic Society of America in New York. A series of 14 gigantic panels depicting Sorolla's particular view of Spanish landscape and people which he painted directly from life over a period of 7 years, becoming therefore the work of his life as Sorolla declare himself.

Don't miss the opportunity (till 03rd March)to contemplate the burst of light and colour from one of the most universal Spanish painters.

Draw Like a Monkey Tv is a video series created by Laszlo Kovacs. It came to their attention that people love to watch artists when they draw. The magic of seeing a drawing came to life not only captivates but inspire people too. DrawLikeAMonkey tries to bring inspiration to everybody but specially children, to become active in creative activities. On their first episode (below) they start off with Jose Luis Ágreda, one of the best illustrators and comic book artists on the Spanish scene, and carry on with few other interesting collaborations. A project definitely inspiring and worth keeping track of it.

I don't know where I found the link to this post in Gizmodo today. Those amazing and beautiful images are part of a BBC documentary called BRITAIN from ABOVE, generated by mixing satellite and air photographs with 3D GPS data give us a whole new perspective of one of the most busiest countries on Earth... Hace un par de meses vi en la tele algunos de los trabajos de Mark Jenkins y me entró curiosidad. Por un lado el declara que parte de su trabajo és una crítica contra los problemas medioambientales y en mi opinión si que lo consigue la mayor parte del tiempo. Como sea, si visitas su web más a fondo podrás encontrar un link ha tapesculpture.org, una web con untutorial para replicar sus esculturas que me dejó un poco decepcionado ya que pude comprobar que casi no se recicla ningún material... bueno, puede que no sea tan importante, pero me hizo pensar en la veracidad del concepto detrás de su trabajo. Como sea, siempre inquietante e ingenioso, vale la pena darle un vistazo a su trabajo.

A couple of months ago I saw some of Mark Jenkins' work on telly and got curious about it.

On one hand he claims that his work is in part critic with environmental issues and in my opinion it does work like that most of the time I look at it. However, while visiting his website more thoroughly you can find a link to tapesculpture.org a DIY tutorial site and I got a bit disappointed as he hardly recycles any material... well, maybe it's not that important, but made me think about the truthfulness of the concept behind the work. Nevertheless, always disturbing and witty, his work it's really worth checking.

Hace 2 semanas vi esto en Deviantart. Por supuesto tuve que visitar el blog del proyecto Covered. Hasta el momento las versiones són bastante parecidas a las portadas originales (a lo mejor esa és la intención), pero creo que el concepto és suficientemente interesante y divertido como para seguir la evolución, eso claro está si eres un aficionado a los cómics.

Two weeks ago I saw this at Deviantart and I had to check that Covered blog project.

So far the covers are quite close to the original (maybe that's the point), but I think that the concept is interesting & fun enough to keep an eye, given of course you are a comic fan.

Perdón por el retraso en posts en el inico del nuevo año. Volver a la actividad regular ha demostrado ser bastante difícil después de un parón vacacional tan relajado. Como sea, entre reuniones familiares y los tradicionales atracones navideños, tuve la suerte de encontrar una pelicula anime titulada MIND GAME (2004) del mismo estudio de animación Studio 4ºC que más tarde produciria la también aclamada TEKKON KINKREET (2006). MIND GAME fué el debut como director de Masaaki Yuasa, basada en el comic con el mismo titulo de Robin Nishi, la historia sirve bien a Maasaki para desplegar una variedad de técnicas de animación de increíble extravagancia psicodélica. De echo, no creo que se pudiera narrar tal historia si no fuese explotando como lo hace todas las posibilidades del medio. Excitante, frenética y vigorizante durante la mayor parte del tiempo hace del visionado un festín visual y a la vez, un ejercicio mental agotador, que mantiene el estímulo y la sorpresa hasta el más vertiginoso de los finales. En conjunto, una obra maestra inusual y por tanto difícil de clasificar, pero que sín duda, para bien o para mal, no os dejará indiferentes.

Sorry for the late start of posting in the new year. Getting back to regular activity proves to be difficult after such a relaxing holiday break. However, amongst family meetings and the traditional food binging, I came across with a surprising anime film called MIND GAME (2004) from the same animation studio Studio 4ºC that later on produced the also acclaimed TEKKON KINKREET (2006).

MIND GAME was the feature directorial debut of Masaaki Yuasa, based on the comic with same title by Robin Nishi the plot serves well to Maasaki to display a whole variety of animation techniques of mindblowing psychedelic stravaganza, in fact I don't think you could possibly tell such story if it wasn't through exploiting all the possibilities of the medium. Exciting, frenetic and exhilarating editing most of the time makes the viewing a feast for your eyes and at the same time a mentally draining exercise that keeps stimulation and surprise to the most vertiginous ending. All together an unusual masterpiece difficult to classify that for good or bad won't let you indifferent.

Este jueves calló en mis manos una pequeña joya. El catálogo de una exhibición de un pintor y artista gráfico francés llamado Dunoyer de Segonzac (1884-1974) que recopila grabados y dibujos dedicados al deporte con gran espontaneidad y elegancia publicado por el Comité Olímpico Internacional para el Musee Olympique Lausanne.

Una pena que no haya podido encontrar mucha información o imagenes sobre él o su trabajo en internet.

Last Thursday I bought a little jewel found by chance. An exhibition catalogue from a French painter and graphic artist called Dunoyer de Segonzac (1884-1974) compiling etchings & drawings devoted to sport with great spontaneity and elegance published by the International Olympic Commitee for the Musee Olympique Lausanne.

A pity I haven't found much information or images about him or his work on internet.

Hoy he recuperado la web de Wilfrid Wood de mis archivos personales. Me he sentido un poco decepcionado al no ver muchas piezas nuevas, pero el sentimiento ha desaparecido pronto después de navegar otra vez por su galeria. Sus increibles esculturas te arrastran directamente a su original mundo de sexo, freaks, contorsionistas, victimas de la moda, cuerpos gordos, animales y androgínia con su singular y atípico ingenio.
No me importaria en absoluto encontrar algunos de sus dibujos la próxima vez que visite la web. Dicho esto, DISFRUTAD de su ARTE!!!

EDIT: Después de ciertas indagaciones, tengo el enlace para DutchUncle.co.uk, la agéncia creativa que representa el trabajo comercial de Wilfrid donde podreis encontrar algunos bocetos. Os aseguro que vale la pena hecharles un vistazo.

Today I recovered Wilfrid Wood's website from my personal archives. I felt a bit dissapointed as I didn't see many new pieces, but the feeling disappeared soon after browsing again his gallery. His amazing toy-like sculptures drag you straight to his original world of sex, freaks, contortionists, fashion victims, fat bodies, animals & androgyny with unique unconventional wit.
I wouldn't mind at all to find some of his drawings next time I visit the website. Having said that, ENJOY HIS ART!!!

EDIT: After doing some research, I got the link for Wilfrid's creative management agency DutchUncle.co.uk where you can find some sketches. It´s for sure worth a look.

Que gran sorpresa la de ayer cuando descubrí (Via: Drawn.ca) que uno de mis programas favoritos de televisión del canal catalán TV3 "Una mà de contes" (Una mano de cuentos) tiene por fin su versión en la web.

En cada capítulo se narra un cuento para niños mientras en pantalla se pinta, dibuja, modela o ilustra mediante collage por diferentes ilustradores o artistas. What a great surprise I had yesterday when I found out (Via: Drawn.ca) that one of my favourite tv programs from Catalan television channel TV3 "Una mà de contes" (A Hand of Tales) has finally its web version.

Hace un par de dias me encontré (via: Badbanana) con las Cápsulas del Tiempo de Andy Warhol. Un sorprendente e interesante proyecto que nos permite husmear en el mundo y la vida del artista.

610 cajas de cartón de medida estándar, que Warhol, empezó a llenar, cerrar y almacenar desde principios de 1974. Warhol utilizaba estas cajas para controlar la deslumbrante cantidad de material que rutinariamente pasaba por su vida. Fotografias, periódicos y revistas, cartas de fans, correspondéncia personal y profesional, obras de arte, imágenes de referéncia para obras de arte, libros, catálogos de exposiciones y mensajes de teléfono además de otros objetos e incontables ejemplos de memorabiblia como invitaciones para cenas o lecturas poéticas eran depositadas casi diariamente en una caja convenientemente situada al lado de su escritorio.

" Las Cápsulas del Tiempo de Andy Warhol fueron casi prácticamente desconocidas hasta su muerte en 1987. 610 standart sized cardboard boxes, which Warhol, beginning in 1974, filled, sealed and sent to storage. Warhol used these boxes to manage the bewildering quantity of material that routinely passed through his life. Photographs, newspapers and magazines, fan letters, business and personal correspondence, art work, source images for art-work, books, exhibition catalogues, and telephone messages, along with objects and countless examples of ephemera such as announcements for poetry readings and dinner invitations, were placed on an almost daily basis into a box kept conveniently next to his desk.

"Andy Warhol's Time Capsules were almost completely unknown until his death in 1987. Although the boxes were frequently handled by his various assistants over the years, few people seemed to recognize this enormous mass of material as anything other than "Andy's stuff". ...Despite the rather prosaic origins, The Time Capsules would ultimately become Warhol's most extensive, complex and personal work. ...Over the years Warhol had several plans to for selling the Time Capsules one of which was to make a small drawing to be placed in each box and then to sell each box for an identical price, with the contents unseen by the buyer. ...This unique and enigmatic body of work reveals new an important information about Warhol's life and expanding our understanding of Warhol's work and artistic practice."

Hace unas semanas volví a visitar la web ArtOfTheTitle y había crecido considerablemente desde la última que la visité. De entre todas las nuevas entradas la de Stranger than Fiction (Más extraño que la ficción) llamó mi atención con unos elegantes e inteligentes motion graphics en los titulos de entrada y crédito por MK12. Dicho esto tenia que, por supuesto, ver la película. Después de hacerlo tengo que decir que no me defraudó en absoluto, ha sido de hecho una de las mejores peliculas que he visto últimamente. Por cierto, os recomiendo que mireis el video extra: Picture a Number: The Evolution of a G.U.I, una detallada mirada al proceso de diseño de los titulos de crédito.

Few weeks ago I revisited the web ArtOfTheTitle and it had considerably grown since the first time I encountered it. Amongst all the new entries the one from Stranger than Fiction caught my attention with a display of some promising smart & sleek motion graphics on its opening & ending credits by MK12. Having said that I had to of course watch the film and after doing so I have to say that the film didn't disappointed me at all, it's been actually one of the best films I've seen lately. By the way, I very much recommend to watch the video extra: Picture a Number: The Evolution of a G.U.I, a detailed look at the on-screen graphic design process.

Hoy he encontrado este increible video en Drawn. Un talentoso dibujante de comics francés que nos enseña el impresionante proceso que ha utilizado para su último trabajo, Alan's War. Ya tengo ganas de que publiquen el álbum, no solo por sus preciosas imagenes sino también porque después de leer sobre como escribió el guión hace que el conjunto de su trabajo sea mucho más interesante si cabe.

Today I found this amazing video on Drawn from a talented French comic book artist showing the amazing process he has used for his last work Alan's War. Looking forward to get the album, not just for the beautiful images, also because if you read about how he got to write the story makes the whole work quite more interesting.

Hace unos años encontré este post en MOCOLOCO con algunos ejemplos del trabajo de Dave Devries de TheMonsterEngine.com enseñandonos como serian los dibujos de los niños si los pintasemos realisticamente.

No hace tanto a través del blog de Swissmiss (otro de los blogs que visito diariamente) vi que la série de fotografías "Wonderland" de Yeondoo Jung tomaban un enfoque similar.

Como sea, el encantador trabajo de estos dos artistas nos enseña como sumergirse en el mundo de los niños és siempre una experiencia sorprendente e inspiradora.

Few years ago I found this post at MOCOLOCO with some samples of Dave Devries' work from TheMonsterEngine.com showing us how kid's drawings would look like if painted realistically.

Not that long ago through Swissmiss' blog (another of the blogs I visit daily) I saw that the series of photographs "Wonderland" by Yeondoo Jung were taking a similar approach.

Anyhow, the delightful work of these two artists shows how diving into children's world is always an amazing and inspiring experience.
